JQ Neighbourhood Plan
The Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan (JQNP) is a community-led framework that is used by Birmingham City Council to guide all planning proposals within the Jewellery Quarter. It enables the local community to have a significant and ongoing influence over new developments, ensuring that heritage is protected while supporting thoughtful growth.
Following a successful referendum in July 2023, the JQNP became part of Birmingham’s statutory development plan. It’s vision is for a vibrant community of businesses and residents, centred around jewellery-making and design. The plan promotes creative conservation, high-quality new developments, improved accessibility, and enhanced public spaces.
Initiated by the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust (JQDT) and shaped by local residents and businesses with professional support, the JQNP reflects the community’s desire to safeguard heritage, enhance development quality, and stimulate area vitality. It was developed through extensive consultation, giving the community a voice in shaping the future of the Jewellery Quarter.
