The Jewellery Quarter is set to come alive after dark with the launch of JQ Lates, a brand-new monthly event series celebrating the area’s rich culture, creativity, and independent venues.
Kicking off on Thursday 27th February from 4pm until late, JQ Lates will take place on the last Thursday of every month, inviting locals and visitors to explore artist studios, live music, workshops, bars, pubs, shops, and more.
JQ Lates is led by Stryx, a female artist-led studio, gallery, and cultural community hub with a presence in both the Jewellery Quarter and Digbeth. The initiative is part of the JQ Common Room, a project funded by Birmingham City Council’s Cultural Action Area (CAA) programme to foster community engagement and creativity in the area.
Anna Domejko from Stryx, who is spearheading JQ Lates, said:
“We took part in Digbeth First Friday, which is a similar event, so we’re excited to bring that concept to the Jewellery Quarter and kick-start JQ Lates. This place is packed with creativity, hidden gems, and people doing amazing things. We want JQ Lates to be an open invitation for everyone to join, discover something new, and most importantly, have fun”.
What’s Happening on 27th February:
The first edition of JQ Lates will feature seven exciting events across various Jewellery Quarter locations:
- MADEBYBRUM x The Jointworks (6-9pm): A showcase of Birmingham’s stories through film and photography, offering a fresh perspective on the city and its people.
- Stryx – Fine Painting: A Drink & Draw Experience (5.30-7pm): Swap cutlery for brushes and food for paint, plus two coffee-based cocktails. Limited spaces – booking required.
- Ivy & Rose Gifts Late Night Shopping (4-8pm): Discover unique, locally made artisan gifts and homewares at this special late-night opening.
- School of Jewellery – Craft in the Atrium: Enjoy craft demonstrations, learn about short courses, and take a tour of this historic institution. Free entry.
- RBSA Photography Prize 2025 – Private View (6-8pm): The sixth RBSA Photography Prize features national and international artists. Open during JQ Lates for an exclusive preview event.
- The Rock & Roll Brewhouse Taproom (5-9pm): This female-led, all-vegan brewery will be open during JQ Lates, with beer, cider, larger, wine, no/low, all vegan.
- GULP: Explore a unique dining and meeting space created by artist Kaye Winwood, offering an intimate and immersive experience.
