Birmingham’s recognition as a World Craft City for Jewellery and Allied Trades celebrates the skill, creativity and heritage of its makers and manufacturers. As part of this community, you’re invited to use the official World Craft City assets to promote your connection to Birmingham’s global craft reputation.
Birmingham’s World Craft City Logo and official Certificate
If you are a jewellery or allied trades business based in Birmingham, you are welcome to use the official Birmingham World Craft City logo and certificate across digital and printed materials. Download the logo here and Birmingham’s official certificate here.

Window Sticker

World Craft City Information
Official Announcement
In Spring 2025, Birmingham was officially awarded World Craft City status for its excellence in Jewellery and Allied Trades. The news was officially announced in June 2025 and celebrated with partners at a special event held inside the Coffin Works.
Birmingham joins global cities Kyoto and Jaipur as World Craft City status awarded
Key messages from the announcement:
- Birmingham is a World Craft City for jewellery and allied trades – officially recognised by the World Crafts Council AISBL.
- The international status celebrates Birmingham’s unique heritage, skilled makers and creative innovation.
- As of 2025, Birmingham joins an elite club of only 4 World Craft Cities in the UK, 8 World Craft Cities in Europe, and 76 in the world.
- World Craft City recognition brings new opportunities for investment, global partnerships, and cultural programming.
- World Craft City bid was supported by Birmingham City Council, Birmingham City University, The Goldsmiths’ Company, and led by the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust.
- Using the World Craft City as a springboard, the UK’s official festival for jewellery will be established in Birmingham: The Birmingham Jewellery Biennial.
Birmingham and the Jewellery Quarter received significant media coverage following the announcement, including features across the BBC on national TV news, online and on radio.
Official Declaration
In October 2025, Birmingham welcomed the President of the World Crafts Council AISBL and a delegation for a special ceremony at the School of Jewellery, where the city was officially awarded its World Craft City status.

What’s next?
Following the award, partners including JQDT, BCU, BCC and the World Crafts Council AISBL are exploring opportunities to build on Birmingham’s World Craft City status, with the first announcement due in late 2025. These will include new cultural initiatives, skills programmes and collaborative projects designed to strengthen the city’s position as a global centre for craft.
Birmingham Jewellery Biennial
World Craft City recognition will act as a springboard for further ambition – including the launch of the Birmingham Jewellery Biennial, the UK’s jewellery festival.
Planned as a citywide celebration, the biennial will feature open studios, jewellery fairs, heritage tours, a trade conference and a flagship exhibition. If you haven’t already, please sign up at www.birminghamjewellerybiennial.com to receive updates.
